How to compress an image to 10 KB

  1. Tap Choose image and pick your photo (JPG, PNG, WebP or iPhone HEIC).
  2. Check the target says 10 KB. Change it if your form asks for a different limit.
  3. Tap Compress image. The yellow tag shows the final size.
  4. Tap Download image and upload the file to your form.

When you need a 10 KB image

10 KB is one of the strictest limits you'll meet, usually for scanned signatures or thumb impressions on exam and bank forms. For these, a small canvas such as 140 × 60 px is plenty. If your signature looks grey or shadowed, use the signature resizer, which whitens the background and makes the ink darker before compressing.

Why portals ask for a size in KB

Government, exam and job portals store millions of uploads, so they cap each file to keep storage and page loads small. The limit is usually written like "JPG, 20–50 KB" or "maximum 100 KB". A modern phone photo is 2–5 MB, which is 40 to 250 times larger than most limits.

File size depends on two things: the pixel dimensions and the compression quality. ResizeKB first lowers JPG quality in small steps until the file fits, because that keeps the full picture sharp. Only when quality alone can't reach your target does it also reduce the width and height, and it tells you when that happens.

What if the portal has a minimum size too?

Some forms say "between 20 KB and 50 KB". Set the target to the maximum (50 KB). The result usually lands just below it, well above the minimum. If a tiny image comes out under the minimum, use the image resizer to make it larger first, then compress again.

Is it safe to upload my photo?

Your image is never uploaded. ResizeKB processes files inside your own browser using the same technology that draws images on web pages, so the photo never leaves your phone or computer. That matters for documents like passport photos, ID scans and signatures. You can even disconnect from the internet after the page loads and the tool keeps working.

Frequently asked questions

Will my photo look blurry at 10 KB?

At 10 KB some softness is normal for a full-size photo, so the tool also reduces dimensions when needed. For passport-style photos around 350 × 450 px, 10 KB still looks clear.

Does it work on mobile?

Yes. It works in Chrome, Safari, Samsung Internet and Firefox on Android and iPhone, with no app to install.

Can I compress a PNG?

Yes. PNG files are converted to JPG during compression, because JPG gets far smaller at the same visual quality. Most forms that ask for a KB limit accept JPG.

Is there a limit on how many photos I can compress?

No. The tool is free and unlimited, and there is no account or watermark.
